Crowcon Xgard Bright

An addressable fixed point gas detector with OLED display, non-intrusive magnetic wand calibration, long-life sensor options up to 10+ years, and UL Class I Division 1 certification — covering flammable, toxic, O2, and CO2 detection across a broad gas library with Modbus, HART, and relay outputs.

The Crowcon Xgard Bright is an addressable fixed point gas detector designed for facilities that demand high reliability, low maintenance cost, and easy integration into multi-point detection networks. Its 4-wire addressable Modbus RS-485 architecture minimizes cabling versus traditional point-to-point wiring, reducing installation cost on large facilities with many detection points. The large OLED display provides clear gas readings and full setup and diagnostic menus directly on the detector without opening the housing — and all calibration, zeroing, and adjustment functions are performed non-intrusively via magnetic wand, eliminating the need for hot work permits during routine maintenance. Long-life sensor options — MPS flammable (10+ years), O2 Long-Life (5 years), and IR (10+ years) — dramatically reduce sensor replacement frequency and lifecycle operating costs compared to standard electrochemical and catalytic sensors. Available in ADC12 aluminium or 316 stainless steel enclosures, with UL Class I Division 1 North American certification and ATEX/IECEx global certifications, the Xgard Bright is a proven, versatile platform for fixed gas detection in Alberta oilfield facilities, processing plants, compressor stations, and any application where long-term reliability and low total cost of ownership are the priority.

Installation and Operating Requirements

10–30V DC power supply; 2x M20 or ½" NPT cable entries; 4-20mA control system input or RS-485 Modbus addressable network; magnetic wand for non-intrusive calibration; optional HART 7 communicator; relay wiring for external alarm or sounder; sensor selection per target gas and application.

MPS sensor 10+ year life and O2 Long-Life 5-year sensor life reduce sensor replacement frequency to a fraction of standard catalytic and electrochemical alternatives — on a 20-point facility, the difference between 2-year and 10-year sensor replacement cycles represents substantial labour and parts savings over a typical facility lifecycle. Non-intrusive magnetic wand calibration eliminates hot work permit requirements for routine calibration visits — on operating facilities where hot work permitting costs time and money, this alone can materially reduce annual maintenance expenditure. 4-wire addressable Modbus networking reduces cable runs versus traditional 3-wire point-to-point installations, lowering installation cost on new-build and retrofit projects.
